Field Experience Journal #1

Lance and I were able to meet with our cooperating teacher the Friday before our orientation. This helped a tremendous amount. While we were there we discussed how we would conduct the classroom and coordinate the lessons that Lance and I plan to teach. We decided to watch the cooperating teacher instruct the class once or twice, assist him during his instruction for a class period, then take the reins and lead the classroom. As of now, I do not have a textbook for the class. I hope to retrieve one in the near future. On our first day, Lance and I were able to read the section that would be taught during homeroom hour’s reading time. We decided that our cooperating teacher would provide us with his lesson plan. Lance and I will use our cooperating teacher’s lesson plan and modify it for a co-teaching strategy. We will build a lesson plan with our cooperating teacher in the future. Lance, Mr. Broze (our cooperating teacher), and I will contact each other mostly through e-mail. We do however have his phone number as well. This was a good start to our field experience.
